Bright Futures: Jayram’s Story
October 19, 2026 | by
Jayram was born deaf into a hearing family and grew up in a small rural community in Birdiya, Nepal, where his family lived on a small farm. Although he attended a mainstream hearing school, he did not have access to a shared language that would allow him to communicate fully with those around him. For much of his childhood, connecting with others and expressing himself was a challenge.
At fourteen, Jayram came to RHERI, where he was introduced to Nepali Sign Language and Deaf-inclusive education.
Today, Jayram is developing his sign language skills and enjoys attending school. He is a kind and polite young boy who loves playing football with his peers. Being part of a community where he can communicate with others and share experiences is helping him build connections and develop the skills he needs for the future.
Like many children who have faced challenges early in life, Jayram sometimes struggles with worry and confidence. He also cares deeply about his family and thinks about what the future holds for them and for himself. Having access to a safe, supportive environment, where he can express his feelings and build trusting relationships, is an important part of his journey.
Through RHERI, Jayram can continue his education, strengthen his communication skills, and explore his potential. With ongoing support, he has the opportunity to pursue further education, develop meaningful relationships, and work towards a future with greater independence and economic opportunity.
Jayram’s story reminds us that access to language and education can open doors that once seemed out of reach. Every child deserves the chance to feel a sense of belonging and to discover what is possible when they are supported and encouraged.
