Sanjeela Gandhari grew up in Nepal and it remains a place that feels deeply like home to her. Though she now lives in the US, Nepal continues to shape her values and commitment to community work.
“People are often surprised to learn that my passion for helping communities comes from my own lived experience as someone from a marginalized background. This perspective is a major reason I’m pursuing my DrPH, and it drives my commitment to equity, representation, and meaningful community engagement in all my work.”
A typical day for Sanjeela involves collaborating with the SafeHavens team to support program activities that strengthen children’s safety and well-being. Each day is different, but the consistency lies in listening, learning, and responding to community needs.
Sanjeela wants to see SafeHavens expand its reach so that even more children and families can access the resources they need.
“I’m proud to be part of SafeHavens because every step we take helps create a safer, more equitable future for children who deserve more than the circumstances they were born into. The organization’s focus on dignity, empowerment, and long-term change motivates me every day.“
