SafeHavens, RHERI and American School for the Deaf Launch Global Partnership to Strengthen Deaf Education in Nepal

 |  by

On World Hearing Day, SafeHavens, RHERI, and the American School for the Deaf (ASD) proudly announce a new international partnership to expand access to quality education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Nepal.

Deaf students in Nepal often face systemic barriers to education, including limited access to sign-fluent teachers, specialized learning materials, and pathways to higher education and employment. This partnership aims to address these challenges through long-term investment in student learning, educator training, and sustainable local capacity building.

The collaboration brings together the expertise of three organizations to obtain funding for a project that will support 44 Deaf students at the RHERI Deaf Community Home in Nepalgunj, Nepal. Some of the expected outcomes include improved academic access, stronger instructional capacity, increased technology access for inclusive education, and the development of future Deaf role models and teachers.

“This partnership is about building an opportunity that lasts,” representatives from the partner organizations shared. “By strengthening local capacity and supporting Deaf students to thrive, we are investing not only in individual futures but in the long-term inclusion and empowerment of Deaf communities across Nepal.”

The partners are working to ensure that upon being funded, this collaboration will not only support the students of RHERI, but also create a replicable model that can support Deaf education initiatives in other communities facing similar challenges.
